One of the strongest messages from patients was that being labelled as ‘frail’ can feel limiting. Patients were aware that the label may restrict access to high-dose therapy and stem cell transplantation (HDT-SCT) or clinical trials, raising concerns that they could miss out on treatments that might extend life. The term itself also sparked discomfort. Patients associated ‘frailty’ with loss of independence, vulnerability and a reduced sense of identity – showing how language alone can influence confidence and decision-making.
