AL amyloidosis can be difficult to treat because the abnormal amyloid protein only slowly resolves. This means it can take a long time to see improvement in affected organs. Responses are not usually quick and may take many months, or even more than a year. That is one of the reasons why treatment is only one part of the picture. From a clinical perspective, this is where multidisciplinary care becomes essential. AL amyloidosis cannot be managed well within one specialty alone. Because it can affect so many different parts of the body, it is essential to have a team of specialists working together.
