Lifestyle

For many patients, a diagnosis of myeloma helps them focus on their health in ways they may not have thought about in the past. Nurses and supportive care teams can help by spending time listening to patients and guiding them to look after themselves and maximise their quality of life. As well as providing support around myeloma and its treatments, nurses should include a holistic approach that addresses and supports other aspects including:

  • Diet and fluid intake
  • Exercise
  • Sexual/relationship issues or concerns
  • Impact on fertility (for younger patients)
  • Finances
  • Spiritual need

These are described in more detail in the next sections.
