Bleeding problems
Bleeding problems are a rare but potentially serious complication of myeloma that results from a reduction in circulating platelet levels. This may be due to the suppressive effects of the myeloma or its treatment on platelet production or by an acquired coagulopathy due to interference with normal clotting mechanisms as a result of the presence of paraprotein. It can lead to easy bruising, bleeding from the gums and/or frequent nose bleeds. Newly diagnosed patients should be encouraged to report any new, or changes in, bruising or bleeding.
