Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy is an umbrella term that describes the different treatments which work by harnessing the immune system to attack cancer cells. Different antigens present at high levels on myeloma cells are targeted during immunotherapy, including BCMA, CD38 and SLAMF7. More recently, new targets have been exploited such as GPRC5D and FcHR5.
In summary the main types of immunotherapies now being investigated for the treatment of myeloma are:
- Next generation immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs)
- Monoclonal antibody drugs
- Bispecific antibody drugs
- Antibody drug conjugates
- CAR-T cell treatments
