Treatment and management of myeloma bone disease
The treatment and management of myeloma bone disease aims to limit the risk of further complications and improve patient quality of life and outcomes. This requires a multidisciplinary approach involving the immediate haematology team alongside pain and palliative care specialists. The earlier supportive teams are brought in, the easier it is to coordinate a care pathway.
Treatment of myeloma bone disease involves treatment of the myeloma itself, the implementation of appropriate and timely supportive treatments and the management of physical and psychological challenges associated with it.
The different types of anti-myeloma treatment are covered in Modules 5 and 6. The most common types of supportive treatment for myeloma bone disease are described in the following sections. These include both pharmacological and other measures.
