MY-RADS guidelines for acquisition, interpretation, and reporting of whole-body MRI in myeloma

As whole-body MRI is listed in NICE guidance as the recommended first line imaging in patients with suspected myeloma, this paper outlines a clinical protocol: the Myeloma Response Assessment and Diagnosis System (MY-RADS), for its use and interpretation.

Recognising the growing significance of whole-body MRI in guiding patient care in myeloma, an international, multidisciplinary expert panel comprising radiologists, medical physicists, and haematologists convened to examine the technical performance standards, advantages, and limitations of existing imaging techniques.

Informed by the guidelines from the International Myeloma Working Group and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK, the MY-RADS recommendations aim to standardise practices and reduce variability in the acquisition, interpretation, and reporting of whole-body MRI in myeloma cases. This consensus provides a foundational clinical protocol for whole-body MRI, alongside an extended protocol for advanced assessments, ensuring comprehensive response evaluation and enhancing patient management strategies.
