BSH/UKMS guidelines for the Screening and management of late and long-term consequences of myeloma and its treatment
These guidelines, produced by the British Society of Haematology (BSH) and the UK Myeloma Society (previously known as UK Myeloma Forum), address the growing number of long-term survivors experiencing ‘late effects’ from both the disease and multiple lines of therapy. These guidelines highlight the importance of recognising the cumulative burden of treatment-related toxicity, which often goes undetected through routine monitoring.
The recommendations summarise evidence for key late effects, including both physical and psychosocial impacts, and advocate for the use of screening protocols to identify and manage these issues early. By implementing effective monitoring and intervention strategies, healthcare professionals can improve the quality of care for myeloma patients, though more research is needed to enhance these approaches.
