2024 Myeloma UK Impact Report Published
Today Myeloma UK have published our 2024 Impact Report – ‘Together, We Are The Cure’. We are so proud of what we have achieved in 2024, all of which is only possible thanks to the support we get from you, the myeloma community.
The report details how we’ve progressed work across our three strategic pillars.
Preventing myeloma
We brought together experts from across the globe as part of our precursor programme. We need to better understand more about who is at risk of developing active myeloma and how it can be prevented. Professor Vincent Rajkumar, Professor Sagar Lonial and Professor Sigurður Kristinsson were among those who joined us to discuss current treatment approaches and the most promising recent research. Thanks to everyone who was involved in this work.
Treating myeloma
In 2024 we worked alongside clinicians and patients to provide crucial evidence to every myeloma treatment appraisal at the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC), leading to a record year for treatment approvals. Alongside UKMS we challenged decisions that would have restricted the number of patients able to receive elranatamab.
We’re also proud that in 2024 we accredited 15 hospitals and reaccredited seven, through our Clinical Services Excellence Programme – working with healthcare teams across the UK to ensure the best care for patients. 100% of hospitals involved said it was a great way to highlight shared practice. If your hospital would like to get involved, then please get in touch.
Living well with myeloma
In the report you’ll read about the two recipients of the Myeloma UK survivorship grants:
- ATOMM, led by Dr Marquita Camilleri, will look into the benefits of switching patients at higher risk of blood clots from a blood thinning injection to a daily tablet.
- ADIUS, led by Dr Orla McCourt and Professor Abi Fisher, is a sub-study within RADAR looking at the psychological impact of receiving information about genetic risk.
The report includes the significant strides taken towards ensuring that people live longer and better lives with myeloma. It shows that every time we act together, we increase the pace of change for people living with myeloma. Download the report to read more.
