Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) announces latest awards for exceptional myeloma care
The Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) celebrates hospitals that demonstrate a strong commitment to raising the bar for myeloma treatment and providing compassionate and individualised patient care. Since our last update in July, we are delighted to announce the accreditation of three new hospitals.
Around a third of UK hospitals with a myeloma service are now CSEP accredited. Accreditation is open to all: from rural district general’s to large city teaching hospitals, any myeloma team can join our growing community of accredited hospitals by completing a short CSEP application form, or by emailing the team at CSEP@myeloma.org.uk.
Wherever your hospital is located and however large or small, we’re here to support you in delivering high quality, patient-focussed myeloma care – because patients deserve excellence wherever they live.
This quarter we celebrate Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and The Christie Cancer Care Centre at Tameside Hospital, all of whom recently gained accreditation.
Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield

Myeloma patients attending the Royal Hallamshire Hospital benefit from a dedicated holistic support programme, delivered together with the Active Together initiative.
Funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, the programme is designed to help individuals prepare for and recover from treatment, offering personalised interventions that promote physical strength, emotional wellbeing, and overall resilience.
We were impressed by the team’s proactive efforts to optimise the monitoring of late effects in myeloma patients.
Despite their dedicated late effects clinic not gaining recommissioning, the team has adapted, successfully integrating this important aspect of care into their existing myeloma clinics. The team also work hard at educating and supporting their primary care colleagues delivering targeted educational talks and have established a local education programme for GPs.
The CSEP award plaque presentation was attended by many patients at the hospital and demonstrated the excellent relationship this team has built with their patient group.
Guy’s Hospital, London

One of Guy’s Hospital’s key strengths is the excellent support the myeloma team have from many subspecialities. Of particular benefit for elderly, frail myeloma patients is the ability to refer to the Geriatric Oncology Liaison Development (GOLD) team for a global assessment.
The resulting outpatient appointment involves an overview of physical function, optimisation of medications including deprescribing where necessary, physiotherapy and occupational therapy support, and specific input for patients with diabetes who are taking steroids.
In addition, patients at Guy’s Hospital benefit from a pharmacist prescriber service which is embedded within the consultant-led clinic. Pharmacists attend two clinics per week to review patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and are authorised to prescribe treatment for selected regimens. This service enhances treatment efficiency, supports safe prescribing, and improves patient access to timely care.
The Christie Cancer Care Centre at Tameside Hospital, Manchester

At The Christie Cancer Care Centre at Tameside Hospital, we were really impressed by the team’s Faster Diagnostic Service – a nurse-led pathway developed with the lead Consultant Haematologist to ensure timely investigations and rapid referral for patients with suspected myeloma.
This streamlined approach has led to earlier diagnoses and improved patient experience and wellbeing.
It was also clear that the CNS team provides exceptional support, often going above and beyond for their patients.
This was reflected in the Patient Experience Survey, which highlighted the team’s compassion, respect, and dedication to patients and their families. The Supportive Care Clinic further enhances this by offering patients the opportunity to ask questions about their diagnosis and complete a Holistic Needs Assessment (HNA), with referrals to additional support services as needed.
