Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) kicks off 2025 with more awards

The Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) recognises hospitals’ commitment to raising the bar for myeloma treatment and providing compassionate and individualised patient care. So far this year we have accredited two new hospitals.

Around a third of UK hospitals with a myeloma service are now CSEP accredited. Whether you’re a large city teaching hospital or a rural district general, you can apply to join this growing list of accredited hospitals by completing a short CSEP application form, or by emailing the team at CSEP@myeloma.org.uk.

Our aim is to support high quality, patient-focused myeloma care wherever patients live, and wherever your hospital is located.

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust have both recently achieved first-time accreditation.

We were impressed with this hospital’s strong clinical trial recruitment, excellent prehabilitation services, and dedication to continuous improvement.

We worked closely with the myeloma team and local myeloma support group to ensure that recommendations for change were patient driven.

The plaque presentation was attended by the support group leader and the hospital’s achievement was featured on local radio, with interviews from a patient and Myeloma UK.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil Hospital)

A clear highlight of this myeloma service is the team’s commitment to ensuring that patients can receive treatment closer to home.

This is particularly important in rural areas, so we were pleased to see that patients have the option of receiving treatments at home through home care arrangements, or at their local community hospitals.

Another notable benefit for patients in Somerset is the new ambulatory care area at Musgrove Park Hospital, to support patients undergoing stem cell transplant. The team also hopes to extend this ambulatory service to include patients receiving bispecific antibody step-up dosing.
