For today and for tomorrow – our impact in 2025
Together, we’re making it possible for people to live longer, better lives with myeloma.
Myeloma UK works every day towards prevention, more and better treatments, and helping people to live well with myeloma. Thanks to the support of the myeloma community, we’re making progress for people affected by myeloma – for today and for tomorrow.
Our 2025 Impact Report captures the highlights of our last year of progress, driven by those affected by myeloma. Read the full report here.
A world without myeloma is possible
2025 saw us accelerate our work towards preventing myeloma.
We launched our pioneering Precursor Framework that, through a set of nine recommendations, outlines what is needed to transform research, services and support for precursor conditions – which ultimately, could help cure myeloma.
We focused on improving early diagnosis of myeloma by raising awareness of the symptoms in new ways. Our incredible volunteers had the warning signs of myeloma painted on their bodies for our Myeloma Awareness Week Campaign. These were turned into films, images and posters that were seen by more than 1.6 million people. The posters were distributed to over 1,500 GP surgeries and over 900 people across the UK shared our symptom translator with their GP.
We partnered with the Race Equality Foundation to improve awareness and early diagnosis in Black communities. Our ‘Knowledge is Power’ campaign was co-produced with Black people living with myeloma, and in 2026 we will build on this work so that every person can receive the support they need, as early as possible.
Driving improvements in care
2025 saw us expand access and drive forward research for treating myeloma.
Last year, we worked hard to reverse initial ‘draft no’ decisions from NICE and secured seven treatment approvals across the UK – including world-first combination treatment BVD (a combination of belantamab mafodotin (Blenrep®), bortezomib (Velcade®) and dexamethasone). The approvals mean more options for clinicians to work with and better futures for people living with myeloma. We worked together with clinicians and people living with myeloma to turn first-hand evidence into action, thank you to every one of you involved in those appraisals.
Finding the best myeloma treatments for people living with myeloma means involving patients from the start. To make sure that happens, we announced MyeTRIAL – a new £500,000 multi-year investment with the Clinical Trials Research Unit at the University of Leeds. Committed to funding trials that patients tell us will make the biggest difference to their lives, we will see the first trials in action in 2026.
Living a full life with myeloma
2025 saw us make our support services more accessible and gather new knowledge to help more people live well with myeloma.
100% of people felt less anxious after speaking to one of our Myeloma Information Specialists so we know how important it is to have access to trusted information and support when people are affected by myeloma. That’s why we partnered with the translation and interpreting service Clear Voice. People can now speak to us in over 250 languages – because everyone affected by myeloma deserves support.
Last year also saw our first Chapman-Livanos Fellow, Dr Romi Carriere, and Dr Sandra Quinn collate initial findings from their work exploring the connection between myeloma and heart and circulatory problems. This has already led to an application to update UK guidance, which will support healthcare professionals to optimise monitoring and improve patient education, ensuring more people can live well, with fewer complications, for longer.
