UKMRA Frailty Group guideline on Assessment and treatment of frail patients living with multiple myeloma

The UK Myeloma Research Alliance Frailty Group has published a new guideline on assessing and treating frailty in people with myeloma.

The guidance highlights:

  • Frailty assessment should be part of routine clinical evaluation, using validated tools to guide decision-making
  • Dynamic monitoring is important, as frailty can change over time and should inform treatment adaptations
  • Tailored treatment approaches are needed to balance efficacy with tolerability, with dose adjustments and supportive care where appropriate
  • Patient priorities and quality of life should be central to treatment planning

These recommendations aim to support the healthcare team in improving outcomes for older and frailer patients.
