Myeloma UK’s Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP)
CSEP is an accreditation programme which supports hospitals in delivering patient-focused myeloma treatment and care.
CSEP enables hospitals to recognise and celebrate their achievements in delivering high quality treatment and care to their patients, as well as identifying any key areas for improvement.
Why apply for CSEP?
Hospitals can apply for CSEP accreditation to demonstrate their myeloma service:
• Delivers patient-focused treatment and care for myeloma patients
• Offers an individualised approach that supports patients with the challenges and
complexities of living with myeloma
• Develops according to the needs of myeloma patients and their families
CSEP also provides clear evidence to commissioners on the quality of the myeloma clinical service provided by the hospital and any areas of improvement that would benefit patients.
What does the CSEP process involve?
The CSEP process has the following elements:
• Initial application
• Self-assessment
• Anonymous patient experience surveys (minimum 20, maximum 50 surveys)
• Meeting with Myeloma UK
• Final report, including highlights and recommendations
The CSEP team will guide you through the process which is mostly completed online. By taking part, you will join a growing community of clinicians who can share new developments and ways of working.

Do hospitals need a myeloma clinical nurse specialist to accredit?
No. We work with a lot of hospitals that have haematology clinical nurse specialists. There is no requirement to have a dedicated myeloma clinical nurse specialist.
Is it free to take part in CSEP accreditation?
Yes, there is no cost to take part in and complete CSEP accreditation.
Can smaller district hospitals take part in CSEP?
Yes. CSEP is designed for any hospital that has a myeloma service. We welcome applications from a range of hospitals as our aim is to ensure that myeloma care is of a high standard wherever a patient lives.
Do hospitals need to meet all the Myeloma Best Practice Standards?
No, it is not a requirement to meet all the standards to achieve accreditation, as CSEP is designed to be aspirational and support continuous improvement. Hospitals are, however, required to demonstrate excellence across the majority of themes and be compliant in all themes.
