Bispecific antibodies are rapidly transforming the myeloma treatment landscape. As an important and evolving class of immunotherapy, they offer new hope for patients by bringing T-cells into close contact with myeloma cells to target and kill the myeloma.

With the first bispecific antibody treatments now approved in the UK, and more in development, Myeloma UK have co-produced a free new guide to support healthcare professionals at the forefront of delivering these complex therapies.

The Myeloma Nurse Guide – Bispecific antibodies is now available as a free downloadable resource, and designed for all nurses working in a haematology and oncology setting.

What this guide offers

Bispecific antibodies offer promising new treatment options but can also present unique challenges. Nurses play a critical role in identifying and managing complications and side effects such as:

  • Cytokine release syndrome (CRS).
  • Immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS).
  • Infection risk.
  • Gastrointestinal, skin and nail disorders.
  • Fatigue and other common treatment side effects.

This guide provides practical and evidence-informed strategies for:

  • Step-up dosing and pre-medication protocols.
  • Monitoring and grading CRS and ICANS.
  • Infection prevention, including vaccination and prophylaxis.
  • Symptom management and patient education.

Expert-led and co-authored

Developed in collaboration with frontline experts Chantelle Hughes, Senior Research Nurse and Dunsi Bolarinwa, Senior Cancer Pharmacist – both from University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and members of the EMMBRAce project – the guide is tailored to real-world clinical practice.

Bispecific antibodies represent the exciting advancements happening in myeloma treatment, but they also bring complex clinical challenges – from managing unique side effects to navigating unfamiliar care pathways. As a nurse, I know how daunting this can feel. That’s why it was a pleasure to work with members of the EMMBRAce project to co-produce this practical, evidence-based resource designed to help nurses feel more confident and supported in their practice. This guide offers clear, accessible tools to enhance patient care and empower nursing practice.
